It is very simple to use and learn, far more efficient than Word. Pages however is completly different, pages is like the PC equivalent of Publisher and One note. Microsoft have basically made a pages clone with some extra word features put on, trying to compete with pages makes it quite difficult to use. Many people will indeed recommend Word which is expected as its a standard word processor, the only problem I have with it is that it isn't the same as the word you find on a PC.
